David Okereke ends Serie A eight-game goals drought

David Okereke ended his eight-game Serie A goal drought as he found the back of the net in Cremonese’s 2-2 away draw at Salernitana at the Arch Stadium on Saturday.

Okereke who last scored for Cremonese in their 3-1 defeat to Inter Milan back in August has had to endure eight strain matches before finding the back of the net for the newcomers who have found themselves in relegation waters.

Krzysztof Piatek opened the scoring for the hosts in the third minute of the encounter but Okereke scored the equaliser in the 12th minute to end his goal drought. Lassana Coulibaly restored Salernitana’s lead in the 38th minute but their failure to put the game beyond the reach of the visitors saw Daniel Ciofani equalise the match in the 89th minute.

The goal is Okereke’s third of the season in 13 games this season having started all but one game for Cremonese. The 25-year-old made way for Ghana’s Felix Afena-Gyan in the 76th minute.

Okereke’s compatriot, Cyriel Dessers had been ruled out of the game due to a leg injury. Cremonese are the only side in the Italian Serie A yet to record a win this season. They’re currently 19th on the league table
