Remo Stars have secured their first-ever Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) title, defeating Niger Tornadoes 1-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Sunday to win the league with three matches remaining.
After second-placed Rivers United were defeated 2-0 by Kano Pillars on Saturday, Remo Stars needed all three points in front of their home fans to officially confirm their status as champions.

The Sky Blue Stars began the match strongly but couldn’t capitalise on their opportunities, as the first half ended in a 0-0 draw. Despite Niger Tornadoes’ resilient defense, the home team kept pressing for a goal and finally broke the deadlock in the 84th minute with Olamilekan Adebayo’s strike, sparking celebrations among the supporters.
Remo Stars’ NPFL victory marks their first major trophy since the club’s establishment in 2010 and the first major title won by a Southwest team in the NPFL in 25 years.
Remo Stars’ league title is also a testament to the outstanding efforts of the team’s management since its inception. Their victory over Niger Tornadoes was their 21st league win of the season, with nine losses and a total of 68 points in a groundbreaking campaign.
Their league triumph ensures that they will represent Nigeria on the continent for the first time since the club’s formation.
