Benin’s national football team captain, Steve Mounié, has declared that his team will be aiming for victory when they face off against Nigeria’s Super Eagles in their upcoming World Cup qualifier match. The match will take place at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The Cheetahs earned their first win of the qualifiers last week with a narrow 1-0 victory over Rwanda. Meanwhile, Nigeria has yet to secure a win, having recorded three consecutive draws against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and most recently, South Africa.
While the Super Eagles might be experiencing low morale, the win against Rwanda has boosted the spirits of both the Benin players and their fans.
In a pre-game interview, Mounié revealed that the Cheetahs are determined to claim all three points against the talented Nigerian squad. He also mentioned that Benin’s extra day of rest compared to Nigeria could be a significant advantage, giving his team more energy and reducing fatigue levels.
“The advantage is that we had one more day of recovery compared to Nigeria. We are going to give it our all,”the Stade Brestois striker said.
The Cheetahs will be banking on Mounié to wreck havoc against Nigeria.
