Algeria’s women’s national football team, one of Nigeria’s Super Falcons Group B opponents at the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), will step up their preparations with two high-profile friendly matches against DR Congo and Senegal on June 29 and July 1.
Both fixtures are scheduled to take place at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium, the home ground of the Algerian national teams. They will depart for Morocco after the friendly for the competition, which begins on July 2.
The friendlies have been strategically arranged to test Algeria against West and Central African sides whose playing styles mirror that of Nigeria, whom the Fennecs will face in their final Group B game at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
In a statement, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) said, “The women’s national team will face the Democratic Republic of Congo and Senegal in preparation for the finals of the African Women’s Cup of Nations 2024, scheduled for July 5 to 26, 2025.”

Algeria will be aiming to reach the knockout stage of the WAFCON for the first time in their history. In five previous appearances, they have never advanced beyond the group stage, managing just two wins in 15 matches.
Nigeria, by contrast, are the most successful team in WAFCON history, having won the title nine times. The Super Falcons are chasing a record-extending 10th crown and will look to dethrone reigning champions South Africa to reclaim continental dominance.
Algeria will begin their WAFCON campaign against Botswana, face Tunisia in their second match, and wrap up the group stage with a clash against Nigeria.
