Super Eagles and Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers has expressed delight at winning the Scottish Premiership Golden Boot for the 2024/25 season, though he admits it’s bittersweet given Rangers’ failure to lift the league title.
The Nigeria international claimed the Golden Boot after scoring 18 goals in 35 appearances, finishing ahead of Celtic’s Daizen Maeda and Dundee’s Simon Murray, who both netted 16 times.

Reacting to the award, Dessers posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Scottish Premiership Top Scorer 2024-25. Not the big trophy we all wanted, but a wee reward for never giving up…”
Since joining Rangers two seasons ago, Dessers has remained one of the club’s most prominent figures. However, his time at Ibrox has been marked by mixed fan reactions, praised for his work rate, yet criticized for inconsistency, with a conversion rate of just 22%, below expectations for a top-tier striker.
Despite the criticism and spells on the bench, Dessers’ resilience paid off under new manager Barry Ferguson, who showed faith in the Nigerian forward. The Golden Boot now stands as a personal triumph and consolation after a season of ups and downs.
