President of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), Nqobile Magwizi, was on hand to personally welcome the Warriors back to their home country following their resilient performance in the 1-1 draw against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday.
The Warriors’ bid to defeat Nigeria and boost their hopes of making history by qualifying for the World Cup for the first time ever was dealt a blow when Osimhen scored a clinical header in the 74th minute, putting Zimbabwe on the back foot and dashing their hopes of a crucial win.
However, the Warriors refused to give up, launching a brilliant team move which culminated in Tawanda Chirewa displaying quick reflexes to gain control of the ball and slot it past Stanley Nwabali, leveling the score in the dying minutes of the match.

The result impressed President Magwizi who commended the players and technical team for their effort. He highlighted that the outcome showcases the significant strides Zimbabwean football is making globally, demonstrating the country’s growing presence and competitiveness on the international stage.
“Every player fought for the badge, and this performance gives us confidence as we continue our World Cup qualification journey and preparations for Morocco 2025,” the President said.
“A big thank you to all the fans for your unwavering support! Let’s keep backing the boys as they push for greatness,” he added.
