Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed her determination to lead Nigeria to victory at the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, stating that she feels no pressure as she takes on the responsibility of guiding the team towards success.
Ajibade is one of five players in the current squad who have previously won the WAFCON title alongside Osinachi Ohale, Francisca Ordega, Asisat Oshoala, and Chiamaka Nnadozie. The forward was part of the Super Falcons’ victorious team in 2018 and claimed the golden boot at the 2022 edition of the tournament.
Although she has already achieved continental success as a player, Ajibade will now aim to secure her first WAFCON trophy as captain. She first wore the captain’s armband for the Super Falcons in 2018 during a 1–0 friendly win against Slovenian side Olimpija Ljubljana in Vienna, Austria.
“Coming back to Morocco and playing this tournament is always a dream come true for me because it’s the biggest competition in Africa, that’s what makes it so special for me,” Ajibade said.

“As a team and personally, we are going to be competing to win it,” she added, reiterating the team’s ambition to clinch the title.
The former Atletico Madrid star described captaining the Super Falcons as a significant milestone in her career: “It’s a privilege and a huge honour to captain the Super Falcons of Nigeria. It’s a huge responsibility and I do not take it for granted, but to be honest, there’s no pressure at all.”
Ajibade further explained her approach to leadership, saying: “Even if there is, I’ve learned to manage every situation that I find myself and I have to perceive it positively and use it to help the team in the best possible way.”
The Super Falcons will kick off their WAFCON campaign with a highly-anticipated clash against Tunisia on Sunday, July 6, before facing Botswana and Algeria on July 10 and 13, respectively.
