Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged the Red Devils to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window due to his experience and elite goalscoring ability.

Manchester United have endured an abysmal season despite appointing Ruben Amorim to replace Erik Ten Haag in November 2024. Their major struggles have been in attack, scoring 37 goals in the Premier league, the sixth worst in the entire division.

Their strikers have often been criticised for their lack of movement and finishing, with Rasmus Hojlund scoring eight goals in all competitions this season, while Joshua Zirkzee has only netted six times since joining the team last summer.

Due to their goalscoring issues, Rio Ferdinand believes that Manchester United have to do everything possible to get Osimhen to Old Trafford, suggesting that a swap deal with Alejandro Garnacho could tempt Napoli and suit all parties involved.

”We need Osimhen, we need experience, we need someone who knows how to score, we need someone who can come and show these young strikers at Man United how to do it. If I’m Man United, I’m making it happen,” the Premier League legend insisted on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast.

”I want someone who knows their way around the full pitch at the elite level and knows how to score at the elite level consistently. I want him here and now. Yes Osimhen hasn’t played in the Premier League but I don’t care, I think he scores wherever he goes,” he added.

Osimhen has been linked with Manchester United in recent months, however, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that nothing is guaranteed yet due to the Nigerian striker’s salary, the package of the deal, and interest in cheaper alternatives.

Other English clubs including Chelsea and Arsenal have also been linked with the Galatasaray star while recent reports suggest that Osimhen may be open to a deal to Saudi Arabia once again following his collapsed transfer to Al Ahly one year ago.
