Rivers Hoopers Shooting Guard Abel Offia says the team is motivated and prepared to fight for top spot in the Kalahari Conference with the aim of securing one of the three available playoff berths.
Rivers Hoopers arrived in Rabat yesterday ahead of the 2025 edition of the Basketball African League (BAL) which will tip off on April 5 in Morocco, with the Nigerian champions facing Stade Malien Basketball in their opening game.
Upon their arrival in Rabat, the Kingsmen have been undergoing intense training under the guidance of head coach Ogoh Odaudu, as they prepare to represent the country on the international stage, aiming to improve on their third-place finish in the previous tournament.

Abel Offia has been one of the consistent performers for Rivers Hoopers, winning the 2024 Rising Star award and MVP of the CDS Independence Day Basketball Championship.
Offia’s outstanding performances and Rivers Hoopers’ thrilling court displays have captivated fans, earning them widespread admiration and enthusiastic support ahead of the Basketball African League.
According to Offia in an exclusive interview, the team’s morale has been boosted by the overwhelming support they’ve received: ”We are really motivated due to the support we have been getting from the team, the fans and everybody, and we are preparing really hard.
“We have been training for three weeks now, we have been in camp, training morning and evening, running, everything. The players that came in, they are really supporting and motivating us, and playing as a team,” he added.
Rivers Hoopers’ flawless run in the Nigerian Premier Basketball League has generated high hopes for their success in the Basketball African League, but Abel Offia downplays the pressure, emphasizing that the team is concentrated on securing victory: “There’s no pressure, we are just going there to play basketball and play hard, then come home with the Championship, that’s it,” he confidently said.
