Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will find out their group stage opponents today as the draw for the 24th FIFA U-20 World Cup takes place in Santiago, Chile.
The ceremony begins at 1pm Nigerian time and will be hosted live from Chilevision’s Machasa Studios. FIFA’s Director of Tournaments, Jaime Yarza, will conduct the draw, with Argentine legend Juan Pablo Sorin assisting.
Nigeria is one of four African teams heading to the tournament, alongside continental champions South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt. The tournament holds from September 27 to October 19, with matches taking place across four Chilean cities: Santiago, Rancagua, Valparaíso, and Talca.
Defending champions Uruguay, who defeated Italy in the 2023 final, did not qualify, but traditional heavyweights Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Paraguay will represent South America.
For many Nigerians, Chile holds a special place in football memory. It was here that Victor Osimhen lit up the 2015 U-17 World Cup, scoring 10 goals to win the Golden Boot and help Nigeria secure her fifth title. That moment launched him onto the world stage — and into Super Eagles folklore.
