Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football team, The Flamingos, have been placed in Group D of the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, where they will face Canada, France, and tournament debutants Samoa.
The ninth edition of the global tournament will run from October 17 to November 8, 2025 in Morocco — marking the first time that an African Nation will host the World Cup.
The official draw for the expanded 24-nation tournament was conducted in Rabat, Morocco earlier this evening, and broadcast live across multiple platforms, including FIFA+, FIFA.com, YouTube, and TikTok.
Nigeria is one of five African nations competing at this year’s tournament. The other representatives from the continent include hosts Morocco in Group A, Cameroon in Group B, Ivory Coast in Group E, and Zambia in Group F.
Group D opponents Canada are making their eighth appearance at the U-17 Women’s World Cup, with their most notable result being a fourth-place finish in 2018. France, meanwhile, are former champions, having lifted the trophy in 2012 and participated in four previous editions.
Samoa enter the competition as group underdogs, marking their debut not just in the U-17 Women’s World Cup, but in any FIFA tournament finals — a historic milestone for the Pacific nation.
Meanwhile, The Flamingos boast a consistent World Cup pedigree, having missed only the 2018 edition. They reached the quarterfinals in three consecutive tournaments — 2010, 2012, and 2014 — but made history in 2022 by finishing third, their highest achievement to date.
