Trabzonspor are looking to keep Nigerian forward Anthony Nwakaeme for at least another season, following manager Fatih Tekke’s push to retain experienced players within the squad.
Nwakaeme rejoined the Turkish club for the 2024/25 season after a two-year stint in Saudi Arabia. Initially expected to play a limited role off the bench, the one-cap Super Eagles forward went on to make 27 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing five assists.
As Tekke begins preparations for the upcoming season, he has made it clear to club management that the 36-year-old Nwakaeme remains part of his plans, alongside 35-year-old Bosnian winger Edin Višća.

Both players were widely expected to depart at the end of the current campaign, due to their age and the constraints of the club’s foreign player quota. However, Tekke believes their experience and qualities can still contribute significantly next season.
Tekke regards Višća as a player with exceptional football intelligence, while praising Nwakaeme for his physical presence and strength. The club’s management has thrown its support behind the coach’s decision and is prepared to allow both players to see out their contracts, which run until 2026.
Despite earlier uncertainty about their futures, both Nwakaeme and Višća have publicly expressed their desire to remain at the club. Their popularity with fans only strengthens the case for their continued stay.
