Nigeria’s world record holder Tobi Amusan will face off against some of the world’s fastest women in one of the headline events at the 50th edition of the Prefontaine Classic, set to take place at Hayward Field, Eugene on July 5.

Amusan, the reigning world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, will be back on the track where she made history in 2022. It was at this very venue — during the World Athletics Championships — that she stunned the world with a blistering 12.12s, smashing the previous mark and becoming the first Nigerian athlete to hold a world record.

Now, she returns to familiar ground for what’s shaping up to be one of the most competitive sprint hurdles races in recent memory.

Headlining the field alongside Amusan is Masai Russell, the reigning Olympic champion and current American record holder.

Russell lit up the track in May with a stunning 12.17 seconds — the second-fastest time in history, just 0.05 seconds off Amusan’s world record. Three of Russell’s top ten performances have come at Hayward Field, making her a serious contender on a track she knows well.

Amusan, for her part, also has history on this track. Three of her top ten fastest career times have come in Eugene, and she boasts three Diamond League titles in addition to her world title.

Also lining up in the blocks is Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, another Olympic and World Championship medalist. Camacho-Quinn, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, owns a personal best of 12.26 seconds — the Puerto Rican national record. She took bronze in Paris and is currently ranked No. 1 in the world.

With Amusan, Russell, and Camacho-Quinn all in the mix, the women’s 100m hurdles at the Prefontaine Classic is shaping up to be an all-time classic — a must-watch race featuring world champions, Olympic gold medallists, and record holders.
