World Cup: Super Falcons advance after goalless draw against Ireland

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have qualified for the second round of the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand after their goalless draw against the Republic of Ireland at Lang Park in Brisbane. 

Nigeria finished second in Group B after recording two draws and one win to finish on five points while co-hosts Australia finished in the top spot after their 4-0 win over Canada at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.

It is the third time the Falcons will make it out of the group stages in nine World Cup campaigns and it is also the first time the country is undefeated in all three group games of the competition.

The Falcons have so far surpassed all expectations at the World Cup and will be looking forward to an engaging second-round clash against the winner of Group D. 

Nigeria played a goalless draw against Canada in their opening game before their 3-2 shock win over co-hosts Australia. Their goalless draw against Ireland confirmed their place in the knockout stages.
