Taiwo Awoniyi was on target, propelling Nottingham Forest to a 2-0 win over struggling West Ham United on Saturday in an English Premier League encounter at the City Ground

The Super Eagles striker opened the scoring in the 45th minute, cleverly putting the ball past the onrushing Alphonse Areola, and was shown a yellow card for taking his jersey off while celebrating the goal.

Calum Hudson-Odoi put the game beyond the 10-man visitors in the 94th minute to earn Forest a well-needed victory in their fight to survive the drop. Kalvin Philips had been sent off in the 71st minute for a second yellow card offense.

The Tricky Trees had been without a win in their last four games.

It was the second goal in four games for the Nigeria international since returning from a groin injury that saw him miss a total of nine league games.

Just as the previous season when the Nigerian was the face of Forest’s survival from relegation, fans at the City Ground will be banking on his usual late-season form to steer them out of the murky Premier League relegation waters.
