Former Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has expressed his gratitude to Nigerians for their support during his time in charge of the national team. He also urged fans to continue supporting the team and its players.

Peseiro’s tenure with the Super Eagles ended after he led them to their first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final appearance in a decade in Cote d’Ivoire. However, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Peseiro couldn’t agree on an extension, leading to their separation in February.

“I want to thank all Nigerians and the entire press for the interest, support, and encouragement given to the Super Eagles while I was their coach. I would like to ask all of you to always support your players,” the former Sporting Lisbon manager tweeted.

“These athletes give their all for the Super Eagles, taking pride in representing their country. The players make sacrifices to bring you joy. The Super Eagles deserve all your support, which will be very important for the great challenges that lie ahead,” Peseiro added.

It’s worth noting that Peseiro’s relationship with Nigerian fans wasn’t always smooth sailing. Initially, many fans criticized his defensive tactics and the lack of wins. However, his performance at the AFCON, including reaching the final, led to a change of heart for some, with some even calling on the NFF to retain him for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
