Offiong Edem won a bronze medal in the women’s singles of the table tennis event on Tuesday to claim Nigeria’s first medal at the 13 African Games in. Accra, Ghana.

The Spain-based player lost 4-0 in the semi-final to Egypt’s Dina Meshref of Egypt to win the bronze medal.

Edem was Nigeria’s only women player to make it to the quarterfinal, after defeating Egypt’s Marwa Alhodaby in the last 16.

She also defeated the twin sister of her round of 16 opponent, Mariam Alhodaby, 4-2 in the quarterfinal.

The next Egyptian was however too strong for her, bowing out to Africa’s No. 1 ranked player, Meshref in the semi-final.

Meshref will play teammate Hana Goda in the final of the women’s singles.
