Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been named the Professional Football Association (PFA) Community Champion for the 2024-25 season in recognition of his outstanding dedication to supporting local communities throughout the year.
Taiwo Awoniyi’s efforts off the pitch have not gone unnoticed, with his involvement in numerous charitable initiatives, including a recent partnership with Nottingham-based organisation Himmah to provide hot meals for Muslims during Ramadan.
According to the Forest striker, the initiative was aimed at giving back to the community and assisting others: “I’m just trying to show love to the community, trying to spread love, to show this month that is so important to my Muslim brothers and also lent month to the Christians. It’s a way of giving back to the community and bringing everyone together in love.”

The PFA Community Champion award is presented annually to players who go above and beyond in their contributions to community development and outreach, and Taiwo Awoniyi’s recognition underscores his growing influence as a role model both on and off the field.
Awoniyi’s growing influence was further reinforced in a recent event which led to an emergency abdominal surgery, after the striker collided with the post during Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City.
Following the surgery, the Nigerian International was placed in an induced coma, prompting an overwhelming outpouring of love and support from fans, teammates, and members of the Nottingham community during and after the procedure.

Supporters from Nigeria as well as teammates also sent their well wishes to Awoniyi and his family, highlighting how much he is valued—not only for his performances on the pitch, but for his character, humility, and unwavering commitment to uplifting others.
Despite a difficult end of the season, Awoniyi’s strong bond with the community continues to grow, proving that his impact extends well beyond football.
