Nigeria’s Super Falcons are set to open their training camp in Portugal as they gear up for their international friendly against the European side on Monday, June 23.
The high-profile encounter will serve as part of Nigeria’s final preparations for the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to commence on July 5 in Morocco.
The upcoming friendly offers another crucial test for the Super Falcons following their 2-0 triumph over Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses earlier this month at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta. On that occasion, captain Rasheedat Ajibade netted a brace to secure victory over the visitors.

The Super Falcons have not lifted the WAFCON trophy since 2018 and will be determined to make a strong comeback after their 2022 campaign ended in the semifinals with a loss to hosts Morocco, followed by a defeat to Zambia in the third-place playoff.
Nigeria are also on a mission to win a record-extending 10th title, a campaign tagged “Mission X.” The team will contest their group-stage matches at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, where they will take on Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria on July 6, 10, and 13 respectively.
With the tournament fast approaching, head coach Justin Madugu is expected to unveil his final squad in the coming days.
