Nigeria’s Super Falcons played out a goalless draw against Portugal in their international friendly at the Estádio José Gomes, Lisbon this evening.

The Super Falcons came into the match aiming to build on their previous friendly win against Cameroon ahead of the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Portugal began the match on the front foot and created early opportunities to take the lead, but were denied by Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. As halftime approached, the hosts had another chance, but Nnadozie once again came to the rescue with a brilliant save to keep the scoreline level.

Portugal continued to press after the break, but the Super Falcons stood firm at the back, with Nnadozie proving unbeatable to frustrate the home side.

The Super Falcons came alive in the final minutes of the game, creating opportunities to snatch a late winner but were unlucky not to find the back of the net.

Veteran forward Francisca Ordega nearly put Nigeria ahead in the dying moments when she noticed the goalkeeper off her line and attempted a bold effort, only to see her shot crash against the crossbar.

While they were unable to find the back of the net, the draw would be viewed as a positive result for the Super Falcons, especially as it is their second consecutive clean sheet.

Up next, they take on West African rivals Ghana in another international friendly on June 29, where they’ll be aiming for a win to build further confidence heading into the WAFCON.
