…Super Falcons to face Portugal next

Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a 2-0 victory over the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the International friendly game played at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta today.

The Super Falcons were initially scheduled to face Cameroon in a two-legged encounter, but the first match was canceled, allowing both teams more time to focus on preparing for the single friendly match.

Following a lively start in the rain, the Super Falcons were awarded a penalty in the 26th minute after captain Rasheedat Ajibade was fouled. The 25-year-old confidently converted the spot kick, giving the hosts a well-deserved lead.

Ajibade nearly extended the lead moments later, but the Cameroonian goalkeeper kept her out. However, she made no mistake in the 43rd minute, scoring her second of the match after latching onto a superb pass from Omorinsola Babajide to give the Super Falcons a 2-0 advantage.

In the second half, the Super Falcons maintained control of the game but couldn’t increase their goal tally. On the other hand, the Indomitable Lionesses pushed forward in a bid to reduce the deficit, only to be repeatedly thwarted by Nigeria’s solid defense.

The Cameroonians had a late opportunity to pull one back, but Chiamaka Nnadozie produced a stunning save in the dying moments to preserve the Super Falcons’ 2-0 lead.

The Super Falcons will aim to carry the momentum from their solid 2-0 victory over Cameroon into their upcoming friendly clash with Portugal on Monday, June 23, in Lisbon.

The match will provide another opportunity for the team to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to begin on July 5 in Morocco.
