Nigeria’s Super Eagles have departed Rwanda after a successful outing and are en-route to Uyo for their World Cup qualifier match against Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on March 25.
The Super Eagles revived their World Cup qualification hopes with a 2-0 win over Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali on Friday as Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen scored twice to secure the much-needed victory.
The win improved Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, moving them up to fourth place in the table with six points. Although they still have a long way to go, the team remain confident and ready to fight. However, they need to defeat Zimbabwe to keep their hopes alive.

While many expect an easy win for the Super Eagles, they must be cautious as Zimbabwe have only lost once in their last seven games. Additionally, the Warriors will also be motivated by a US$150,000 incentive from their government for a victory over Nigeria.
Historically, Nigeria have the upper hand in head-to-head matches against Zimbabwe, securing four wins and three draws in eight games, with their only defeat coming in an international friendly played in 1981.
The stage is set thus for an exciting clash between Nigeria and Zimbabwe. The Super Eagles will need to stay focused and avoid complacency if they want to emerge victorious. With the right mindset and strategy, they can overcome the Warriors and move closer to their goal of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
