Championship side West Bromwich Albion, have confirmed that Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has suffered another hamstring injury, which will keep him sidelined for several weeks.

Upon recovering from his previous hamstring injury, Semi Ajayi made his first start for West Brom after three months and 14 days in a 1-1 draw against Millwall during their SkyBet Championship clash, playing the full 90 minutes, and marking a successful return to action.

However, his return was short-lived, as he started again in the next game against Oxford United but was substituted out in the 41st minute for Mason Holgate.

After a diagnosis of the nature of the setback, West Brom have now offered an update, as a club statement on their official social media page read: “We can confirm Semi Ajayi will be sidelined for several weeks after suffering an hamstring injury.”

“The central defender came off in the 41st minute during our 2-0 win against Oxford United. He will now enter a period of rehabilitation and will target a return before the season’s conclusion. Everyone at the club wishes Semi a speedy recovery,” the statement revealed.

The injury comes at an unfortunate time for the Super Eagles and Eric Chelle, who are preparing for the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March. With victories needed in both games, Semi Ajayi’s quality and experience will be missed.
