Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar continued his remarkable form for Valencia, scoring the winning goal in their 2-1 La Liga victory over Real Valladolid at the Estadio de Mestalla on Saturday.

Sadiq Umar had previously scored a brace against Osasuna, securing a 3-3 draw in Valencia’s last La Liga game. He was thus rewarded with another start, leading the line for the home side who desperately needed a win to escape the relegation zone. They faced a struggling Real Valladolid side, winless in seven consecutive games.

Valencia made a strong start, with Sadiq Umar involved in the opening goal, using his strength to hold up the ball before it was deflected to Diego Lopez, who scored clinically, giving the home side an early lead.

However, Real Valladolid equalized just before halftime, with Juanmi Latasa scoring his second La Liga goal this season, increasing the away side’s hopes of securing a much-needed victory.

In the second half, Valencia controlled possession, seeking another goal to retake the lead which they did as Sadiq Umar delivered once again, controlling the ball after a brilliant cross from Enzo Barrenechea before muscling past defenders to score with an outstretched leg and give the home side the lead.

Despite Real Valladolid’s efforts to equalize again, Valencia defended resolutely, protecting their lead and securing three crucial points, ending their three-game winless run and moving out of the relegation zone.

The vital win propelled Valencia to 16th place with 27 points, one point ahead of Deportivo Alaves, who sit 18th. On the other hand, Real Valladolid remain at the bottom of the table with 16 points.

Valencia will travel to face Girona in their next La Liga game on March 15, while Real Valladolid, now winless in eight games, will host Celta Vigo in their next match.
