Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has commended his players for their outstanding performance in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Rwanda’s Amavubi at their World Cup qualifier clash on Friday.
Motivated to achieve victory, the Super Eagles took the lead in the 11th minute through Victor Osimhen, who finished off a well-taken free kick from Ademola Lookman. The Galatasaray striker then scored his second goal just before halftime, securing a 2-0 win for the team.
In his post-match press conference, Eric Chelle acknowledged the difficulty of the game while praising his players: “It was a difficult game, Rwanda has a great team. I am proud of my players’ performance. We worked a lot within the few days. We had just two full training sessions. We kept the ball in the second half, good performance from my guys (players).”

Chelle expressed satisfaction with the team’s tactical setup but also highlighted the need to improve: “It is my joy to set up the system, we tried two different systems in the team. We need to improve, it is the first game and we are going back to work for the second game.”
Chelle declined to comment on the Rwandan team, emphasizing his focus on his own players: “I won’t criticize the Rwandan team and talk about them. My job is to talk about my team.”
The head coach stressed the importance of teamwork and unity in achieving their goal of qualifying for the World Cup: “Every player in the team can play, we need to work together and achieve the goal of qualifying for the World Cup. We have great players. Today, the team was good, my job is to make the decisions, decide on the system and personality.”
