BAL25: Rivers Hoopers suffer 100-80 loss to Al Ittihad

Rivers Hoopers have tasted defeat for the first time at the ongoing Kalahari Conference of the 2025 Basketball Africa League, losing 100-80 to Al Ittihad Alexandria who maintained their winning run in the competition.

The Egyptian side made a strong start to the game, outscoring Rivers Hoopers 25-23 in the first quarter before extending their advantage with a 27-19 scoreline in the second quarter, giving them a 10-point lead going into half time.

Al Ittihad continued to build on their performance in the third quarter, showcasing brilliant skills and ultimately outscoring the Nigerian side 29-23 to take a 16-point lead into the final quarter.

Desperate to avoid defeat, the Kingsmen mounted a late comeback attempt in the fourth quarter. However, Al Ittihad’s strong offense proved unstoppable, outscoring Rivers Hoopers 19-15 in the final stretch to secure a convincing 20-point win.

Al Ittihad’s Kyle Vinales led the charge with a game-high 26 points, adding seven rebounds and six assists. Meanwhile, Madut Akec continued his impressive form for Rivers Hoopers with 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Following the loss, Rivers Hoopers have now dropped to second place in the Kalahari Conference standings with two wins from three games. They have the chance to bounce back when they face home team FUS de Rabat in their next game on Thursday, April 10.

On the other hand, Al Ittihad who are now on top of the standings following three consecutive wins will face Stade Malien on the same day, hoping to continue their unbeaten streak.
