Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna will battle for the gold medal of the men’s singles table tennis event with Egypt’s Omar Assar in a repeat of the 2015 final.
Aruna, Africa’s No. 1 ranked player, qualified for the final after defeating another Egyptian Mohamed El-Beiali 4-0 in the semi-final.
The Nigerian who was drawn bye in the round if 128 defeated Central African Republic’s Glenne Mbati 3-0 in the round of 64 before seeing off Angola’s Quibico Andre 3-0 in the round of 32.
Aruna was also too strong for Algeria’s Ouaiche Stephane in the round of 16, winning 3-1 to set up a quarter-final clash with Egyptian Youssef Abdel-Aziz who he defeated 4-2.
He will be hoping for his first African Games singles title after losing to Assar in 2015 and compatriot Olajide Omotayo in 2019.
Omotayo couldn’t make it two consecutive finals, falling in the quarter-final 4-0 to Assar
