Club Brugge, home to Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika, secured their 12th Belgian Cup title on Sunday, defeating arch-rivals Anderlecht 2–1 in the final held at King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels.

Club Brugge reached the final after a 3-1 win over Patro Eisden, followed by victories against OH Leuven and Genk. Meanwhile, Anderlecht earned their spot by defeating Westerlo, Beerschot, and Royal Antwerp, setting the stage for a much-anticipated final — the 202nd clash between the two rivals.

Club Brugge’s standout performer was 21-year-old forward Romeo Vermant, who scored in both halves to seal the win. He opened the scoring with a precise finish from a pinpoint Hugo Siquet cross and later added a second after another superb delivery from Christos Tzolis.

Luis Vázquez pulled one back for Anderlecht late in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome as Club Brugge held firm to secure victory.

Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika, who has been in excellent form throughout the season for Club Brugge, delivered another strong performance in the final, featuring for 74 minutes before being replaced by Hugo Vetlesen.

Despite picking up a yellow card in the 22nd minute, the 24-year-old maintained his composure, playing a key role in controlling the game and helping to prevent Anderlecht from mounting a comeback.

Club Brugge’s cup triumph means that they have secured qualification for the UEFA Europa League and will compete in the Belgian Super Cup against the league champions.

However, they remain in the race for the league title and have a chance to complete a domestic double as they currently sit second with 46 points, just one behind leaders Union St.Gilloise.

With three games remaining, Onyedika and his teammates will be dreaming of winning the league for the second year in a row and clinching a first domestic double since the 1995-96 season.
