Flamingos head coach, Bankole Olowokeere has unveiled a 19-player squad for the upcoming FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifying match against South Africa’s Bantwana.
The Flamingos will fly to South Africa on Wednesday to face Bantwana in the first leg of their qualifying fixture on March 8 while the return leg is scheduled for March 15 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Nigeria.
The winner of the two-leg tie will secure a spot in the 9th edition of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, joining the host nation as CAF’s representatives
In preparation for the crucial qualifying clash, the Flamingos played three friendly matches, securing convincing victories against Nakamura FA and ANWFCC All Stars, before drawing their final friendly game 1-1 against Beyond Limits U13 boys.
The Flamingos have a rich history in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, having participated in every edition except the 2018 tournament. Their best finishes were reaching the quarterfinals in 2010, 2012, and 2014 as well as achieving third place in 2022. The team is now determined to secure a spot in the World Cup and make a deeper run in the tournament, with their sights set on winning the ultimate prize.
