After a period of bereavement following the loss of his mother on January 1st, 2025, Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali returned to action with a resounding performance. He played a crucial role in his team’s 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows in the round of 32 of the Nedbank Cup.

The Port Harcourt-born goalkeeper, who was granted compassionate leave by the club after the loss of his mother on New Year’s Day, returned to training on January 16th.

While he was an unused substitute in their 2-2 draw against Marumo Gallants on January 18th, Nwabali got back his starting shirt, making his first appearance of the year against Golden Arrows, delivering five outstanding saves that proved instrumental in securing the win.

Despite conceding a goal that replays suggest may have been incorrectly awarded, Nwabali’s heroics kept his team in the game and propelled them into the next round of the Nedbank Cup.

Expressing his gratitude, Nwabali on social media stated, “It feels good to be back on the pitch and contribute to this important victory. I want to thank everyone for their support during this challenging time. I’m grateful to my club and teammates for their unwavering encouragement. Let’s continue to make history together.”

The former Go Round FC goalkeeper will be striving to help Chippa United achieve a strong finish in the league this season.
