The Board of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) have convened a disciplinary panel to investigate the disturbing incidents from the league game between Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City.
The highly-anticipated Southwest derby between Shooting Stars (3SC) and Ikorodu City at the Lekan Salami Stadium ended in a goalless draw, but the tension didn’t end there as chaos erupted immediately after the final whistle.
Fans went on a rampage after the game, attacking the Ikorodu City team bus, shattering glass and injuring players and staff. Eyewitnesses also reported narrowly avoiding physical assault by angry supporters who were furious about the game’s outcome.
Addressing the unfortunate situation, NPFL Chairman, Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye, announced that the Board will hold an investigative hearing on Wednesday to look into the violent incident that occurred at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

“We are not unaware of the unacceptable occurrence and have scheduled a disciplinary meeting to determine appropriate measures to deter a recurrence”, said the league chairman.
“The Board will consistently act to stamp out all forms disreputable behaviours to keep the league free of unsporting engagement before, during and after league games”, Elegbeleye assured.
Fans are expecting the investigation’s findings to lead to measures that will prevent future violence in the NPFL, safeguarding players, supporters, and officials, and preserving the league’s reputation.
