Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) leaders Remo Stars have extended their gap at the top to eight points, securing a 2-0 victory over Enyimba on Thursday to increase their chances of lifting their first-ever league title.
After second-placed Rivers United had missed out on the opportunity to close the gap to two points, losing to Bayelsa United 1-0, Remo Stars had the chance to take advantage by securing victory at their home ground. However, they faced a tricky test against an in-form Enyimba side that had not lost in five games.
Motivated by their passionate supporters, Remo Stars made a fast start to the game, seeking for a goal to give them an early advantage. Their determination paid off as the deadlock was broken in the 28th minute courtesy of Adedayo Olamilekan’s clinical finish.

The second half was an intense encounter as Remo Stars were looking to score another goal to seal their win while Enyimba were desperate to level the scoreline and avoid their first loss in six games.
However, the home side eventually doubled their advantage in the 68th minute as substitute Samson Olasupo scored with his first touch after coming on to give Remo Stars a well-deserved lead and ultimately a 2-0 win in front of their jubilant supporters.

The crucial win takes Remo Stars’ tally up to 60 points in 30 games, eight points above second-placed Rivers United. Meanwhile, Enyimba remain ninth on the table, four points behind fourth-placed Shooting Stars who drew with El Kanemi Warriors 2-2.
With their latest victory secured, Remo Stars are on the cusp of making history with a potential title win, holding an advantage with a game in hand while the other league contenders have little time to challenge, with only seven matches left to play.
