Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Niger Tornadoes have issued a statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding an alleged altercation involving one of their staff and a Shooting Stars official prior to their encounter on Sunday.
A viral disturbing video circulating on social media alleged that a Niger Tornadoes official assaulted Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper trainer, John Dosu, before their match, which the “Oluyole Warriors” won 3-1.
In response, Niger Tornadoes have released a statement providing their account of the incident and disputing the claim of an assault on Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper trainer, stating that there is no video evidence to substantiate the allegation.
“Upon arrival at the stadium, Shooting Stars officials, 3SC Fans TV crew, and some fans attempted to block Niger Tornadoes players and officials from entering the pitch. This led to a heated confrontation between the two groups,” the statement revealed.
“During the altercation, the Shooting Stars goalkeeper trainer claimed to have collapsed and feigned injury, suggesting he was punched. However, there is no video evidence to support this claim other than a huge bandage painted with red oil to deceive the public. We challenge anyone with evidence of when and how the goalkeeper was punched to bring it forward.”
“The actions of Shooting Stars officials in attempting to deny the visiting team access to the pitch upon arrival were unacceptable and unsportsmanlike. Such behavior should be discouraged and not tolerated in the beautiful game.”
“We hope this statement sets the record straight and provides a clear understanding of the events that unfolded.”
