Super Eagles fullback Ola Aina’s outing was cut short by an injury, forcing his substitution in the first half as Nottingham Forest defeated Manchester United 1-0 at the City Ground on Tuesday.

Nottingham Forest’s fantastic season continued as they defeated Brighton in the FA Cup, securing a spot in the semi-final for the first time in 34 years. However, they suffered a hammer blow prior to the clash against Manchester United, with leading goal scorer Chris Wood and skillful winger, Callum Hudson-Odoi ruled out.

Despite the setbacks, the home side made a fast start to the game as Anthony Elanga raced clear after a United corner was headed towards the former Red Devil who ran almost the full length of the pitch, shrugging off a challenge from Garnacho before slotting the ball into the back of the net in the 5th minute.

Few minutes before half-time, Nottingham Forest suffered another challenge as Ola Aina pulled up injured in the 36th minute, leaving the pitch for further treatment before being helped down the tunnel and replaced by Álex Moreno. Morato then came on as a third centre-back, replacing Danilo.

The second half saw Manchester United dominate possession in search of a leveler, denying Nottingham Forest of any shot on target but also failing to convert the chances they created, ultimately leading to a hard-fought win for the home side.

The crucial win means Nottingham Forest are edging closer towards achieving a historic Champions League spot as they currently sit third with 57 points, nine points above Manchester City who are fifth.

Despite another remarkable victory, Nottingham Forest will have no time to rest on their oars as they travel to face Aston Villa in four days. It remains uncertain if Ola Aina will be fit enough for the clash, however, it is expected that the club will release an update on his injury status soon.
