Nigeria’s Wahid Enitan Oshodi will be looking to retain his seat on the Executive Board of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) as elections hold on Tuesday, May 27 in Doha, Qatar.
Oshodi is one of 17 candidates vying for eight available Executive Vice President positions at the ITTF Annual General Meeting. He is also one of four current Vice Presidents seeking re-election.
A respected voice in global table tennis, Oshodi is widely seen as a frontrunner due to his impactful first term, where his leadership and diplomatic skills helped steer the sport through key challenges. His reputation was further boosted in 2024 when he was elected President of ITTF Africa, the sport’s continental governing body.
During his tenure, Oshodi played a vital role in resolving disputes between World Table Tennis (WTT) and the athletes’ community, a move that positioned him as a consensus builder and earned him international praise.
The list of candidates includes prominent names from across the world, such as Hajera Hajee (South Africa), Liu Guoliang (China), Virginia Sung (USA), Ryu Seungmin (South Korea), and Princess Zeina Rashid (Jordan). Others are from countries including Egypt, Brazil, Italy, Uganda, Romania, and Japan.
Three candidates—Andrew Mudibo (Kenya), Elhajji Monqid (Morocco), and Lotfi Guerfel (Tunisia)—have withdrawn from the race.
Also taking place in Doha is the election for ITTF President, where Sweden’s Petra Sörling is seeking a second term. She faces competition from Khalil Al-Mohannadi of Qatar and Mohamed El Hacen Ahmed Salem of Mauritania.
Sörling, the first woman to lead the ITTF, was elected in 2021 and has been credited with stabilising the federation’s finances and expanding its influence globally. She also made history by becoming the first ITTF President to join the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
