Five players have been declared ineligible to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after travelling abroad to sign professional contracts with foreign clubs.
The affected players are Abubakar Sadiq (Plateau United), Philip Adejo (Abia Warriors), Saviour Isaac (Enugu Rangers), Papa Daniels Mustapha (Niger Tornadoes), and Waliu Ojetoye (Ikorodu City).
In addition, Ifeanyi Onyebuchi (Enugu Rangers) and Sporting Lagos goalkeeper Ifeanyi Harcourt — currently with the national U-20 team — are also not expected to report to camp.
These players were included in the original 35-man provisional list released by head coach Eric Chelle ahead of the tournament, scheduled to hold from August 2 to August 30 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The players have become ineligible for CHAN as the competition is exclusively reserved for footballers actively playing in their domestic leagues.
At the time of this report, it remains unclear whether the coach will replace the affected players or continue with the remaining squad members in camp.
Notably, Saviour Isaac and Papa Daniels Mustapha were key figures in the team and are also part of the main national team setup.
