The Nigerian U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have been handed a challenging draw for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
The draw, which took place in Bogotá on Wednesday, placed Nigeria in Group D alongside powerhouse Germany, Venezuela, as well as Korea Republic.
For the first time in the tournament’s history, the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will feature 24 nations, with the matches scheduled to be played across four stadiums in three Colombian cities – Bogotá, Cali, and Medellín – from August 31 to September 22.
The Falconets, who have participated in all previous editions of the tournament, will face a stern test in their quest to improve upon their impressive quarter-final finish at the 2022 edition in Costa Rica.
Germany, the reigning European champions, will undoubtedly pose the biggest threat in Group D, while Venezuela and Korea Republic are also formidable opponents.
The Falconets’ campaign will kick off against Korea on September 1 at El Techo Stadium, Bogotá, followed by the matche against Germany at the same venue three days later and Venezuela on September 7 at Pascual Guerrero Stadium, Cali.
