After careful consideration, The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have decided to overturn the points and goals deduction imposed on Bendel Insurance and Nasarawa United by the league’s disciplinary committee according to Sports analyst, Tolu Oguntimehin

Bendel Insurance had initially been penalized with a three-point and three-goal deduction due to fan violence that erupted during their NPFL Match Day 11 fixture against Kano Pillars.

Similarly, Nasarawa United faced a similar punishment for fan misconduct during their Match Day 18 clash against Rivers United. However, upon further review, the NFF Disciplinary Committee chose to rescind the points and goals deductions while upholding other sanctions.

The committee’s investigation revealed that Bendel Insurance FC had indeed failed to provide adequate security during their home game against Kano Pillars. Nevertheless, there was insufficient evidence to prove that match officials had been subjected to grievous assault.

A similar outcome was reached in the case of Nasarawa United. Although the club was found guilty of fan misconduct during their game against Rivers United, the NFF Disciplinary Committee determined that there was no conclusive evidence of referee assault.

However, the Match Commissioner’s performance was deemed unsatisfactory, resulting in his reassignment to the Nigeria National League (NNL) as a punitive measure.

Another case that was reviewed by the NFF Disciplinary Committee was Plateau United’s appeal, following a N4.74 million fine as well as a three-point and three-goal deduction. In their case, The committee upheld NPFL’s findings and decisions in full.

As a result of the overturned points and goals deductions, both clubs will experience a significant improvement in their standings on the NPFL table while also receiving a huge boost to their survival hopes, with Bendel Insurance now on 31 points while Nasarawa United will now have 25 points.
