U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named Baylor University’s Nathaniel Ezekiel as the Men’s National Track Athlete of the Year, Bold Sports reports.

This prestigious award, announced on Monday, makes Ezekiel the first Baylor athlete to receive this USTFCCCA honor since Jeremy Wariner in 2004.

The Nigerian athlete made history at the recent NCAA Outdoor Championships, securing the 400-meter hurdles title with a personal-best time of 47.49 seconds. This incredible performance also ranks as the third-fastest collegiate time ever in the event.

Ezekiel’s victory marks Baylor’s first national champion in the 400mH since Bayano Kamani in 2001, and he is only the third Bear to win the event.

He concluded his impressive Baylor career with a long list of accolades, including being named the 2025 Big 12 Indoor and Outdoor Athlete of the Year. He is a nine-time All-American across both indoor and outdoor seasons and holds Baylor program records in the 400mH and the indoor 400m. He was also a key member of the indoor 4×400 relay team.

Notably, Nathaniel Ezekiel finished his collegiate career as the only athlete in NCAA history to hold multiple all-time top-ten marks in the 400mH, with a remarkable four such performances.

These honors were determined by votes from member coaches following the conclusion of the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with consideration given to athletes’ performances throughout the entire season.
