Leicester City have announced the departure of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho, as his contract expires this June. The Foxes also confirmed that they are in discussions with midfielder Wilfred Ndidi regarding his future at the club.
Both Iheanacho and Ndidi played crucial roles in Leicester’s promotion-winning campaign back to the English Premier League.
Iheanacho, who joined the club from Manchester City in August 2017, scored 61 goals during his seven-year stint at the King Power Stadium. His most memorable moment came when he scored the 89th minute winner against his former club in the FA Community Shield final at Wembley in August 2021.
Ndidi, meanwhile, has been a key figure in Leicester’s midfield since his arrival from Genk in 2017. The Nigerian international has made over 200 appearances for the Foxes, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League and establish themselves as a competitive force in the top flight.
During their time at Leicester, Iheanacho and Ndidi have been integral to the club’s success. In the promotion-winning season, Iheanacho scored 15 goals in the Championship, while Ndidi was a rock in midfield, making 38 appearances and contributing to the team’s defensive solidity.
Leicester City also confirmed the departure of Club legend Marc Albrighton and Belgian midfielder Dennis Praet. Albrighton, who made 313 appearances for the Foxes and scored the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League goal, will leave behind a lasting legacy at the King Power Stadium.
The Club expressed their gratitude to all three departing players for their contributions and wished them success in their future endeavors.
As for Ndidi, Leicester City fans will be eagerly awaiting the outcome of the ongoing discussions regarding his future at the club.
