Veteran Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has completed a move to Romanian heavyweights CFR Cluj, Bold Sports reports.
The experienced centre-back joins the eight-time Romanian champions on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Turkish club Kasimpaşa last season.
Omeruo is set to begin training with his new team immediately, with his debut likely to come in the Romanian Super Cup Final against FCSB on Saturday, July 5.
The Romanian club confirmed Omeruo’s arrival in an official statement released on Friday morning: “We are pleased to welcome Kenneth Omeruo to CFR Cluj. Starting today, he is officially part of our team,” the club announced.

“Omeruo is a seasoned professional who has played in some of Europe’s top leagues, including England, Spain, the Netherlands, and Turkey. His career has seen him represent clubs such as Chelsea, Middlesbrough, and ADO Den Haag. He also made over 120 appearances for CD Leganes across Spain’s top divisions and featured in more than 100 matches in the Turkish Süper Lig with Kasimpaşa and Alanyaspor,” the club added.
“He has earned 69 caps for Nigeria, where he has also served as captain. Kenneth was part of the Nigerian squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 and played a key role at the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups,” the statement further read.
Omeruo also expressed his delight with the move, sharing his eagerness about the opportunity to play in front of CFR Cluj’s passionate fanbase: “I’m excited to be in Cluj, and I can’t wait to see you guys when the season starts,” he said.

The 31-year-old will aim to help CFR Cluj clinch the Super Cup as they take on rivals FCSB. The league champions have been unbeaten in the last four meetings between both sides, but Omeruo’s arrival could provide the extra edge Cluj need to secure their fifth Super Cup title.
