Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi is closing in on a major personal milestone — reaching double digits in Premier League goals — after finding the net in Sunday’s derby clash against Chelsea at Craven Cottage.
Alex Iwobi opened the scoring in the 20th minute after Sessegnon dispossessed Chelsea captain Reece James and found the Nigerian midfielder on the edge of the box. Iwobi then sidestepped Enzo Fernandes before firing a low shot into the bottom right corner, putting Fulham 1-0 up against the Blues.
However, Chelsea showed their resilience against their London rivals, coming from behind to snatch a late victory — with Tyrique George netting his first Premier League goal and Pedro Neto sealing the win with an unstoppable strike, leaving Fulham heartbroken.
Iwobi’s strike against Chelsea marked his ninth Premier League goal of the season, highlighting the remarkable progress he has made since joining Fulham. The 28-year-old had netted five times in the league last season, with his previous best coming during his time at Arsenal, where he managed three goals in three consecutive league campaigns.
Iwobi’s increased goal output, as well as his improved creativity and off-the-ball contribution have drawn praise, earning him a nomination for the EA Sports FC Premier League team of the season alongside top midfielders including Cole Palmer, Bruno Fernandes, Declan Rice, and Bruno Guimaraes. Many fans also consider him a strong contender for Fulham’s player of the season.
With his contract running until 2028, Fulham are unlikely to part ways with one of their standout performers, particularly as they push for European qualification. Still, given his improved goalscoring form, it wouldn’t be a surprise if top European clubs began to show interest in securing Iwobi’s services.

It is hoped that Iwobi’s club form can carry over to the national team, as the Super Eagles aim to string together crucial wins to boost their 2026 World Cup qualification chances, while also seeking redemption at the AFCON following their heartbreaking final loss in Ivory Coast.
