Nigerian-American basketball player Daniel Oturu has reportedly requested the termination of his recently signed three-year contract with Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv due to ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran.

The former Los Angeles Clippers and Toronto Raptors center had agreed to a three-year deal worth nearly €7 million. However, both he and teammate Elijah Bryant have allegedly instructed their agent, Alex Saratsis, to initiate the cancellation of their contracts.

The recent escalation of conflict in the region has led to the suspension of sporting activities in Israel. According to reports, Daniel Oturu is apprehensive about relocating to the country amidst growing security concerns.

In light of the situation, Greek basketball giants Olympiacos and Panathinaikos are reportedly monitoring the development and are poised to make a move for Oturu ahead of the upcoming season.

Following his stint in the NBA, Oturu began his European career with Turkish club Merkezefendi Belediyesi Denizli Basket before joining Anadolu Efes. He played a key role in helping Efes reach the semifinals of the 2024/25 Turkish Basketbol Süper Ligi.

Hapoel Tel Aviv, who are set to compete in the EuroLeague next season after winning the EuroCup, may now be forced to seek urgent replacements if Oturu and Bryant officially exit the team due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
