Despite making an impressive start to his Hoffenheim career with three goals in his first six Bundesliga appearances, Nigerian striker Gift Orban has been urged to step up as the club battles to avoid relegation.
Orban joined Hoffenheim during the January transfer window in a deal worth an initial €9 million, plus €3 million in add-ons, after a challenging stint at Lille that saw his career stall.
His arrival in Germany came with high expectations, and with three goals in six matches, he appears to be a key player in the club’s fight for survival. However, German football journalist Lukas Hörster believes the former KAA Gent forward still has work to do to adapt to his new team.

“Gift Orban has already made a significant impact. He’s scored three goals in 280 minutes, including two crucial ones that earned Hoffenheim valuable points in the relegation battle,” Hörster said.
“He’s performing well, but he’s not yet fully integrated. Hoffenheim is struggling to find him regularly in attacking plays, though that’s also due to the club’s overall struggles at the moment.”
Despite being a newcomer, Orban’s three-goal tally is just four behind Hoffenheim’s top scorer, Andrej Kramaric, who has seven goals and four assists in 20 league matches. With more game time, the Nigerian striker is expected to find the net even more and play a decisive role in Hoffenheim’s survival hopes.
