Nigeria’s U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have embarked on a nine-day break after completing a two-match tour of Côte d’Ivoire as the team arrived in Nigeria on Saturday and will regroup in Abuja on March 10 ahead of the U20 AFCON tournament.

During their tour, the Flying Eagles played two games against the Ivorian U20 team, securing a 2-0 win in the first match, thanks to goals from captain Daniel Bameyi and forward Divine Oliseh. However, the team lost the second match by the same scoreline, as their opponents secured victory at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny.

The Flying Eagles will face Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco in Group B of the Africa U20 Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Cote d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 18 and the team will be determined to claim the trophy for the eight time.

The continental showpiece will feature 13 teams divided into three groups. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will qualify for the quarterfinals.

The four semifinalists in the Africa U20 Cup of Nations will represent Africa at the FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Chile, scheduled to take place from September 27 to October 19.

Upon their return to Abuja, the Flying Eagles will welcome foreign-based players into the fold, as revealed by head coach Aliyu Zubairu. The team will then shift into high gear, intensifying their training in a bid to surpass their performances in the previous four editions, where they fell short of claiming the title.
