Nigeria’s Flying Eagles could face arch-rivals Ghana’s Black Satellites in the quarter-finals of the ongoing CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, with a place in the semi-finals and a ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup at stake.
The Flying Eagles secured their spot in the quarter-finals after finishing second in Group B with five points from three matches, following a 2-2 draw against Kenya’s Rising Stars in their final group game on Wednesday.
Morocco topped the group with seven points after edging Tunisia 1-0, while Kenya bowed out of the tournament after finishing bottom of the table.

Attention now shifts to the quarter-final stage, where Nigeria will aim to advance to the semi-finals, a milestone that also guarantees qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Chile from 27 September to 19 October 2025.
The top four teams from the CAF U-20 AFCON will automatically qualify for the tournament in Chile. Nigeria will be eager to maintain its strong record, having qualified for the last two editions.
Standing in their way, however, could be a familiar foe. Nigeria has been drawn to face the second-placed team from Group C, currently occupied by Ghana, with four points from two matches. Ghana is level on points with group leaders DR Congo, while Senegal sits third with one point from two games.
The final round of Group C matches will determine Nigeria’s opponent. DR Congo will take on Senegal, while Ghana faces the Central African Republic. With all three teams still in contention, Nigeria’s quarter-final opponent could be any of DR Congo, Ghana, or Senegal.
