Flying Eagles arrive in Cairo for U-20 AFCON, set to face Egypt in friendly game

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have arrived in Cairo ahead of the TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations which will take place from 27 April to 18 May, 2025 in Egypt.

A delegation of 24 players and nine officials led by Head Coach Aliyu Zubairu, arrived at the Cairo International Airport on Sunday evening aboard Egypt Air flight.

The seven-time African Champions are now set to take on host nation, Egypt’s Young Pharaohs in a friendly match scheduled for 5pm local time (4pm Nigerian time) at the Cairo International Stadium as part of their preparations ahead of their opening group game against former champions Tunisia on Thursday, May 1.

Three days after their opening match, the Flying Eagles will face Morocco at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, before concluding their group stage campaign against Kenya on Wednesday, May 7 at the same venue.

The team will be looking to qualify from the group stage and progress from the quarter-final, sealing their spot as one of the four semi-finalists who will earn tickets to represent Africa at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. They will also be eager to lift the trophy, becoming African champions for the first time since 2015.
