Nigeria’s U17 Women’s team, the Flamingos, delivered a resounding 6-1 victory over Nakamura FA in a friendly match at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne as the team intensifies its preparation for the upcoming U17 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The friendly game served as a crucial warm-up for the Flamingos’ highly anticipated two-legged qualifying clash against South Africa’s U17 girls, scheduled to take place within March 7-16 as four teams from Africa will qualify for the prestigious tournament in Morocco, joining the host nation as CAF representatives.

The Flamingos started strong, scoring in the ninth minute when Chisom Nwachukwu received a brilliant pass from her teammate before beating the goalkeeper with an excellent touch and scoring, giving her team an early lead. Chidi Harmony then scored twice in quick succession, extending the Flamingos’ lead to 3-0 within the first 20 minutes.
The second half continued with the same intensity, as the Flamingos maintained their dominance over Nakamura FA. In the 58th minute, Queen Joseph scored with a well-placed finish, further increasing her team’s lead. Shakirat Moshood then added another goal with a curling shot, making it 5-0 before Queen Joseph scored her second goal of the game, increasing the lead to 6-0.
Although Nakamura FA managed to score a consolation goal in the dying minutes through an own-goal, they did little to dampen the Flamingos’ spirits as the friendly win was already sealed.
The convincing win will undoubtedly boost the Flamingos’ momentum and preparation ahead of their crucial clash against South Africa. Led by Bankole Olowookere, the team will continue to fine-tune its tactics and build its confidence before the upcoming qualifiers.
