Nigeria’s Flamingos will face Algeria in the final qualifying round ahead of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after defeating South Africa’s Bantwana in both legs of their 2nd round qualifying matchup.
The Flamingos demonstrated impressive performances against South Africa, winning 3-1 in Pretoria and 2-0 in Ikenne. Meanwhile, Algeria staged a remarkable comeback against Botswana, losing 2-1 in the first leg but winning 4-0 in the second leg to secure their qualification.
Both sides will now battle for a ticket to the World Cup in Morocco as the first leg will take place between 18-20 April, 2025 while the second leg will be played between 25-27 April, 2025.

Nigeria’s Flamingos have consistently participated in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, missing only the 2018 edition. Historically, their best finishes were reaching the quarterfinals in 2010, 2012, and 2014.
However, the team made history in 2022 by advancing beyond the quarterfinals for the first time, defeating the USA in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw, marking a significant milestone.
The Flamingos’ progress was halted in the 2024 World Cup quarterfinals once again, where they lost 2-0 to the USA. As such, led by Bankole Olowookere, the team is now focused on securing a spot in the upcoming World Cup and making a deeper run in the tournament, with their sights set on claiming the title.
