Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili has broken the women’s 150m World Record at the Adidas Atlanta City Games held today in Piedmont Park, clocking an unprecedented 15.85 seconds.

She has now made history as the first woman to run the 150m in under 16 seconds, smashing the previous World Record of 16.23 seconds set by Shaunae Miller-Uibo in 2018.

Tamari Davis of the USA took second place with a time of 16.14 seconds, followed by Jamaica’s Ashanti Moore in third at 16.50 seconds. Kennedy Blackmon (16.68) and Kennedy Simon (16.92) rounded out the top five.

Favour Ofili’s world record-breaking performance is a testament to her remarkable development as an elite sprinter.

In February 2023, she became the second-fastest indoor 200m runner in collegiate history — behind only Abby Steiner — after setting a new African indoor record of 22.36 seconds at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Ofili went on to make her Olympic final debut in the 200m at the Paris 2024 Games, finishing sixth with a time of 22.24 seconds. She also competed in the women’s 4 × 100m relay, where the Nigerian team achieved a season-best of 42.70 seconds but did not advance beyond the heats.

Ese Brume also delivered a strong performance in the women’s long jump at the Adidas Atlanta City Games, recording a Season’s Best of 6.70m (0.0). She placed fourth, while World Indoor Champion Claire Bryant claimed victory with a windy 7.03m, just ahead of Jasmine Moore who jumped 7.02m.
